YOU CAN’T BUILD A REPUTATION ON WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO

There is a belief that confidence is coming, that motivation is coming and when that moment comes you will be ‘Ready’ to take that leap of faith, to start that project or kick off your new business. But in truth your brain is hardwired to keep you safe and keep you alive so it seems the day when you are “Ready” is not on it’s way.

As Rob Moore says “Start today and get perfect later”. It is only by doing that we learn how to do, we can read all the “HowTo” books and watch all the “HowTo” videos on Youtube but you won’t know if you can do it until you have actually done it for yourself. It is the same thing with learning to swim, you had to risk the chance of drowning to gain the knowledge that you can swim, it is the only way. Sure you can pop arm bands on, and you don’t have to dive in head first but at some point you are going to have to learn to achieve unaided.

Richard Branson called his company “Virgin” for the a couple of reasons, firstly its a memorable name especially in the 1970’s and his ethos and approach to all new business projects was that they were “Virgins” to the industry, that they were the underdogs and the start ups, even all these years later that is the psychology.

So please understand that your brain magnifies risk, because it’s only job is to keep you alive and away from danger and there is no danger like something new. So figure out what you are good at, and double down on that and go with it and tune out opinions if they are holding you back. you have to get to a place is doing you because you don’t want to get to 85yrs of age and wish you would have taken that leap of faith.

Tony Robbins explains that we have basic human needs

uncertainty and variety
significance the need to feel important

Hope

Most people get a little high talking about what they are doing, or going to do. Its a little dopamine hit but you can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do. So ultimately the best thing you can do is make something, mess up and then fix and sculpt it and take that leap and put your work, your passion and your pride on the line.
