WHAT THEY DON’T TELL YOU ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP – DAN LOK
They say that being an Entrepreneur is one of the loneliest paths you can take. You are trying to ride the lion whilst not really understanding how or why you got on the lion in the first place. We idolise people like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. But what you don’t see is the emotional struggles, the mental pain that you have to put up with and put yourself through. The no1 characteristic of any successful entrepreneur is the ability to endure pain and stress over a long period of time, you are a living breathing problem solver.
One night Dan Lok sat in his office at 4am in the morning, crying to himself. From a man who admits to not crying often, he had to have a good look at himself and ask “What am I supposed to do now?”. Business was on a downturn and he had just lost his father, and he felt so lonely and hopeless but he hide it from his wife to protect her. Dan dug his heels in and realised that if he got through this hard time, it would be an asset in later years.
Other pressures such as not spending enough time with family and loved ones, working until you fall asleep at the office and alienating friendships, these all cause you to isolate. Many people cannot understand why you have to always have more, be more and achieve more. They look at you and ask, why can’t you just be happy with what you have? It is a good question, which Dan talks about in this video below.
