WHEN MOTIVATION LOST IT’S MEANING

What’s that noise!….Can you hear it? Can you hear anything through all that noise. That noise is a crescendo of Motivation, the happy clappy kind, the stern psychology kind, the Oprah kind.

Like anything, you can have too much of a good thing. And a band wagon invites any old hack along for the ride. Head out to WH Smiths and have a look at the Self Help section, it’s awash with utter guff and self gratifying tales of over coming all odds, to achieve greatness in life…only to need to peddle a a book for £14.99 a plop!

Type Motivation in Youtube, and you get slapped in the face with videos by the big boys such as Vaynerchuck and Robbins, joined in the noise by deluded souls fighting for attention. Dipsticks with Youtube Adds, about how they achieve “Success” in their lives, although they are clearly in someone else’s office and have managed to illicit a lost soul to follow them around with a DLSR and make they look important. Note: Watch out for the middle aged men surrounding themselves with young people who worship them, there is clearly something wrong there.

We recently attended and EXPO for self development and my word were there some lost souls, not all but definitely some. It seems like the go to thing if you are a bit lost and don’t have any actual practical skills. Now I am not talking about those who have actually been there and proved their worth such as Vaynerchuck, Robbins and a Richard Branson. Although I don’t always agree with their approach and feel they are capable of peddling just as much Motivational rubbish as anyone else, at the very least they have achieved a level of success that is transparent and cannot be denied.

I am talking about the lost souls, the deluded ones who add words to their names like “Inspire” or “Gentlemen” and walk around peddling their snake oil whilst a lost soul follows them around with a DLSR camera as if they are some sort of second coming. THIS IS THE MAKING OF A CULT, pure and simple. This is cult psychology.

So underneath this avalanche of lost soul, spouting Motivation whilst sitting on their arse or puking out the odd Facebook Live to make themselves feel like they are doing something in this world, that Motivation has lost it’s meaning and therefore it’s power. We used to look up to those above us who have achieved extraordinary things, now we get an ear bashing from those who are playing a character whilst achieving nothing or very little. These are the lost souls that are killing off motivation and self development. Many of them are simply lost, some of them are deluded, some are dangerous and have severe mental health issues and some are just joining in because it looks easy.

Motivation is no longer motivating, it is somewhat irritating at times. There is no longer a need for substance behind the speaking. The Multi Level Marketers have high jacked the stage and talk utter shit whilst lost souls nod along, hoping to be thrown a bones. Motivational speakers are there to GIVE you perspective, one that might not be applicable to you. They are not there to gather followers, that is a cult leader.

The jig is up. Time to learn a skill set and provide something practical to the world. The Butcher, The Baker, The Candle Stick Maker did not write a book about how their glorious mind can help YOU be a baker to, they Baked and when they were old and grey, they passed on their Knowledge and did their bit.
