GROWTH IS AN OUTCOME NOT A STRATEGY – HOWARD SCHULTZ
The CEO of Starbucks talks about the change in his business over the past ten years. Ten years ago Starbucks Stores used to close at 7pm and most of their work was done in the morning between 7am and 10am. Now people are using Starbucks at midnight and it has become more of a community than a service.
Howard Schultz says that growth should not be a strategy but an outcome. Growth is an outcome of the work you are doing, then you adjust to the growth and pivot in that direction. From a trip to Malan in Italy in 1983, Starbucks has become one of biggest business’ in the world today and in 2017 they finally opened a store in Italy. That is over 40 years of natural growth, not based on strategy but on building respect and community.
